You tried your best to win his favor - all of the other survivors thought of you warmly, and it only made sense to try to be friends! After all, teamwork makes the dream work! Nick finds your attempts to win him over… Annoying. □ Though, in spite of his initial, cold first impression, you warmed up to Nick, finding yourself sticking to him the most. Another person meant another mouth to feed, another person to look put for, someone else to drag into a safe room when they were too weak and injured to go on any further. Ironically, Nick was the only one who thought the whole thing was a bad idea. You were a newcomer in their group, and they had taken you in at Coach’s insistence - not that the others were too keen on leaving a potential survivor behind, of course. He knew love was not hitting or screaming or anger. He thought he did, once, but backed out at the last second (like the coward he was). He grew into what he hated most - a gambler and a drunk. None of the family he had been passed around through the foster system could ever soothe the ache of his heart. He remembered the policemen taking dear old dad away, and he remembered mom’s dead body. He remembered screaming fights and bruises and broken bones. Sometimes, Nick would recall when he could rely and trust others - so young and naive. ![]() He relied mostly on luck, partially on strategy, and never, ever, on others. ![]() □ If Nick were being truthful, something he isn’t often, he’d say he couldn’t even on himself for the most part.
